Quasi 200 accademici da tutto il mondo scrivono una lettera aperta all’Istituto Giovanni Paolo II

Quasi 200 professori provenienti da tutto il mondo hanno firmato una lettera aperta ai responsabili del Pontificio Istituto Giovanni Paolo II, esprimendo la loro “grande preoccupazione” per i recenti licenziamenti di due professori di lunga data presso la scuola superiore e implorando che siano reintegrati.

I firmatari, composti da alcuni noti accademici cattolici, hanno scritto nella lettera del 20 agosto che “non vedono alcuna ragione convincente, di natura scientifico-accademica o di natura dottrinale o disciplinare, che giustifichi la loro rimozione dalle loro posizioni”.

Il presente appello si aggiunge ad un precedente sottoscritto da 49 accademici, di cui abbiamo parlato (qui).

La lettera riguardava i licenziamenti di mons. Livio Melina, già presidente dell’Istituto Giovanni Paolo II, e di padre José Noriega, teologo morale, ai quali è stato notificato in una lettera del 23 luglio che sarebbero stati privati del loro posto di ruolo nel nuovo istituto dopo la promulgazione dei nuovi statuti pubblicati il 18 luglio.

La missiva è stata indirizzata all’arcivescovo Vincenzo Paglia, Gran Cancelliere dell’Istituto, e a Mons. Pierangelo Sequeri, presidente dell’Istituto.

Noi sottoscritti, professori e ricercatori di varie istituzioni accademiche di tutto il mondo, abbiamo appreso con grande preoccupazione che i professori Livio Melina e José Noriega sono stati privati dei loro incarichi di ruolo.

Non vediamo alcuna ragione convincente, sia di natura scientifico-accademica che di natura dottrinale o disciplinare, che giustifichi il loro allontanamento dalle loro posizioni.

Affinché il vostro Istituto mantenga il suo alto profilo accademico e il suo prestigio internazionale, vi imploriamo di revocare questa decisione e di reintegrare i suddetti studiosi in una posizione di insegnamento di ruolo presso il vostro Istituto.
